Finding a Rhythm

Photobucket
Our precious Shana was born just eleven days ago. This is my first week on my own, and I have to admit that I was apprehensive and nervous about being alone wth my two girls. Today went really well, and I am pretty sure that I can do this!
Having child number two is vastly different from my first experience! I am amazed at how much I can love Shana, when my love for Selena is so great. I am still in awe of the miracle of birth and that this sweet bundle was inside of me for nine months. I feel so much more peaceful and less worried about the little things. With Selena, I was worried about doing everything perfectly. Now I know that I can't. I am thankful to see the love that Lena has for her little sister, and I pray that it will always be so. This morning, as all three girls were in bed together, I thanked God for the two of them. I pray that God will save them both at early ages. I pray that we will always be close.
The biggest issue for me is the sleep deprivation that I'm experiencing right now. However, I know that this is only for a season. These moments will be gone all too soon! I can't say I'll be sorry when I have her sleeping through the night though!
So today I was able to get my girls dressed, keep them fed, take a nap while they both napped, make dinner, clean our bathroom, and do one load of laundry. I was also able to read to Lena for an hour. So as this week progresses, I will be slowly finding a rhythm and redoing our schedule.
Any tips or advice from any of you? Many of you have more then one child and have made this transition already. I'd love to hear from all of you!
Oh dear, Shana just anointed her daddy with spit up and he is calling for reinforcements!!
good bye all ....

Beverly,
Wow! It sounds like you had a super productive day. A meal, nap, load of laundry, *and* a clean bathroom is amazing! Great job, mama-of-two!

My advice is to snuggle up lots with Lena, to continue to involve her in everything you're doing (in the house and with the baby).

I'm sure you're already doing this, but I've found it makes a HUGE difference to make her to feel like she is your indispensable helper with the new baby; that she is needed and loved by her sweet new Shana, too.

As for you: rest while you can. Don't try to tackle too much. Love your man. Enjoy.

I will pray for your sleep!

Hi Bev! I was going to suggest napping when they nap, but I see you're already doing that. I also read to my older 1(s) while I was nursing the baby - that way, instead of feeling left out, they were included - & I never had any problems with jealousy. My other advice is enjoy every moment, & take lots of photos! These are the days that are so FUN to remember! May God's richest blessings be on you and yours!

Good job, dear. I have no doubt that, with God's help, you'll do just fine, even on those sure to come difficult days. Kisses to the girls from Nanna.

Glad everything is going well, and I hope the sleep deprivation will be very short-lived.
Hugs to all!

Beverly ~ Isn't it amazing how God just keeps stretching our heart with more love to encompass the children He gives us! You sound like you're doing fantastic. Recognizing that no momma can do it perfectly is a huge step towards a peaceful, joyful home. I love the phrase you used ... finding a rhythm. Indeed every family dances a little bit differently, and so it's the rhythm of your own sweet family that's important. Don't ever forget (on the bad days especially) that God chose you to be these little ladies' momma. God does not make mistakes. And those He choses - He enables. Hugs to you and your gals! :o)

I agree totally with Nanna! You are going to do just great. If you are a good example to the girls in all areas of your life then they will follow suite. I am sure you are and will be so that is my bit of advise from the mom of 5. The sleep will come and in the meantime you will be in my prayers. connie from texas

Your doing great already! I've had four blessings...sleep when they sleep..AM or PM; keep picked up only the room you spend the most time in, the other rooms can wait. If it piles up....call upon some family or friends! Cast your cares on the Lord & He will take care of your concerns. Rest in His arms of peace. He will not give you more than you can handle! What a beautiful gift motherhood is!

Congratulations! I am so happy for your safe delivery and your sweet joyful spirit!

I have been out of town and just returned (with a bug) but had to see how you are doing.

I am a mom of 6 (one with the LORD) and g'ma to 9.....so I should be able to glean something from my archives of motherhood for you ;)

God bless you with the needed rest..and strength.

Sounds like you are doing wonderful to me!! My little girlies are just 2 years apart too and we've rarely had problems with jealousy. Like others mentioned, I praised Braylee for being such a big helper to mommy and the new baby. She liked when I gave her the responsibility to "read" to her sister...which gave me a few minutes of peace too. :) Like you, it was the quiet moments in bed that I so dearly treasured. I specifically remember one night...I was nursing Brynna while cozied up to Braylee who was being read to by her Daddy...truly one of my most favorite memories. I remember thanking the Lord for such a perfect moment.
