O For A Closer Walk With God

Photobucket
There is such richness in this hymn. We sang it last night in church, and I wanted to think about it today.

O for a closer walk with God,
A calm and heavenly frame,
A light to shine upon the road
That leads me to the Lamb!

Where is the blessedness I knew,
When first I saw the Lord?
Where is the soul refreshing view
Of Jesus and His Word?

What peaceful hours I once enjoyed!
How sweet their memory still!
But they have left an aching void
The world can never fill.

Return, O holy Dove, return,
Sweet messenger of rest!
I hate the sins that made Thee mourn
And drove Thee from my breast.

The dearest idol I have known,
Whate’er that idol be
Help me to tear it from Thy throne,
And worship only Thee.

So shall my walk be close with God,
Calm and serene my frame;
So purer light shall mark the road
That leads me to the Lamb.

William Cowper

Oh, how I love this precious hymn! I was excited to see that you found some extra verses that aren't in our hymnal. Definitely something to meditate on today.

Those words are very beautiful. And your post is pretty. I am having some trouble commenting.

I love the pretty yellow begonias you and Lena picked out. I almost bought one like it the other day, but thought it was still too cold. They were somewhat inside. I have put them on my porch in pots. And the other smaller kinds I have planted outside. But I'm really not an expert on those lovely flowers.

Such beautifl words. I wish they sang more hymns like this, today.

We also are weak in Him, yet by God’s power we shall live with Him.” 2 Corinthians 13:4

I don't believe that I have ever heard this hymn. I sure would like to though. I wish I knew how the tune goes. It has wonderful words. connie from Texas
